Science Eureka

The sabbatical was very interesting, going out of our learning scope, yet being related to our studies. The five day programme was packed with interesting experiments, as well as having some small competition at intervals, to encourage us to do better. At the end, there was a small quiz, and a presentation on a topic selected at the start of the sabbatical. The presentation encouraged us to find out more about science.

Basic and Advanced Aviation Science

The Basic program introduced the foundation principles of flight, like lift, drag and so on. It also entailed short flight simulations, as well as a mass dogfight at the end. The Advanced program went into the in-depth avionics of the F-16, one of the best fighter planes in the world. Then, we got a chance to fly a simulation of the F-16. There was also a task where we had to start up the engine from scratch. After that, there was also a lab session where we got a chance to build our own glider. These programs allowed me to indulge my passion for flying, especially the simulation, and the glider making. From the theory sessions, I was able to understand more about how planes fly. And from the gilder making, I was able to reinforce it and put it into practice.

Reflections on Termly Personal Performance and Growth Development in Science

My grades for Term 1, 2, 3, are A1, A2, and A1 respectively. The A2 obtained in Term 2 was a very high A2, as such, one mark could have gotton me A1, but, that said, my
A1s were very low A1s. As such, I found that I have not put in enough effort to improve on myself. My growth, is thus not much. My work was not at all consistent, occasionally not even handing in work at all. Thus, I find my high scores not well-deserved. Thus, I have resolved to work harder, and much better, to show at least some improvement in the End Of Year Exams.

Issues in teaching

Units and measurements

This topic is quite essential in the following LSS lessons and is also helpful in Maths. The importance of units is irrefutable, as a mistake in units can cost millions of dollars, as showed in the Mars probe incident.

Difference in Mass and Density

Mass and Density are both important units, and as shown above, can be very important.

Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is a very important topic, as that is where the energy in our bodies start from. Without photosynthesis, there woul be no food and thus everyone would die, thus we must understand this topic better.
